Born and bred in Sydney, Dr Matthew Ramzy is your local Dental Surgeon based in our Surry Hills clinic.
Passionate about helping his patients to enjoy the simple pleasure of laughing, smiling and eating with confidence, Matthew is well known in the clinic for his caring, calm and attentive nature. He describes himself as a gym junkie who spent a lot of time studying, a little time travelling and who loves a good burger.
We took five minutes with Matthew to find out more about his career in dentistry and what he loves to do outside of the clinic.
Matthew, what inspired you to pursue a career in dentistry?
Dentistry is an amazing craft that combines science, art and engineering. We’re building, rebuilding and replacing things for our patients.
My career started as a pharmacist, but my passion for helping people and doing the most I can to make them want to smile drew me to dentistry.
How would your patients describe you?
From what I hear, my patients say that I listen and that I am attentive, calm and patient. I take the time to ensure they fully understand their condition and the recommended treatment process so I can address any concerns they may have.
Can you give us a behind the scenes peak into dentistry? What’s something nobody knows?
Many people don’t realise how much dentistry has evolved from what some would term the medieval, dark days - the times when people were terrified of the dentist.
Advanced technology and treatment techniques mean there really isn’t a reason for people to be scared of a dentist anymore, and I like to help them realise that in the Profilo Surry Hills clinic.
Every individual who comes through the clinic has a comfort level they are happy to be treated at. I place their comfort as one of the most important elements of their visit.
What do you love to do outside of the clinic?
I am very into my fitness and cross training. I love intense cardiovascular workouts, gymnastics and weight lifting. If I am not at the gym, you’ll probably find me at one of Sydney’s beautiful beaches or eating a great local burger.
What’s the most adventurous thing you have ever done?
I have travelled to quite a few countries, and I can’t wait to see more. I’ve also tried snails at a French restaurant.
Besides the snails, what inspires you to jump out of bed and come in to see your patients every day?
I am passionate about providing a high quality service to people. Dentistry is a very measurable practice with a timely result that patients experience, so I enjoy real satisfaction from the job. I love seeing how the treatments I deliver directly and positively impact my patient’s lives, health and wellbeing.
What three goals would you like to achieve in the next five years?
I’d like to broaden and refine the depth of my skill set to a very high standard of quality. That is so important to me.
I’d also like to travel to a few parts of the world that I haven’t been to yet and start a family at some stage.
Finally, what lasting impression would you like to leave on your patients?
That they can’t wait to come back next time.
